Welcome to freewheeling

Now is a critical moment for public transport.

The horrors of 2020 saw the shadow of an opportunity as the first lockdown forced cars back into the garage and made people re-evaluate their choices.

But the opportunities were outweighed by the threats.

Strident messages that public transport was not safe caused a migration to cars when lockdown eased.

An industry already hamstrung by centralisation saw decision-making sucked into Whitehall, from where it may never return.

In that context, Freewheeling aims to be a place for freethinking ideas to get us going again. A place where we can celebrate successes and warn of dead-ends.

Our speakers and articles won’t always be consistent but hopefully they’ll be interesting.

If we have an ideology, it’s to be a voice for decentralisaton; recognising that decisions are best made by those closest to the customer.

Freewheeling is not a news site but a place which will, hopefully, both inspire and challenge.

As we go, I’d absolutely love to hear your feedback. What have you liked and what have you not. You can contact me here:
